Equitable Stroke Control

Are you recording incorrect scores?

As of 1/1/2020 maximum stroke allowance (MSA) replaces. Equitable Stroke Control, or ESC. This system is used by the USGA to minimize the effects of "disaster holes" on handicap indexes. You know, that one or two holes per round where you put three balls in the water and then 5-putt.

If you put a "14" down on your scorecard, it might throw your handicap index out of whack.

Therefore, the USGA now uses MSA, which sets a maximum score per hole based on your course handicap. This new system is a "net double bogey system". Under this system the maximum score you can take is a double bogey plus the number of handicap strokes you are allowed on that hole. For example if you get a stroke on 17 north the maximum score you can take is par+2+1=8. We still will take max 10 on tourneys but GG changes scores when posting to net double bogey.
